Our consistent response to behaviour

The way in which we respond to inappropriate behaviour or where students are not meeting our behaviour expectations is fair, consistent and implemented in a way that ensures students are able to reflect on their behaviour in a timely manner. Our Consistent response to behaviour process is an integral part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports framework and our Approach to Restorative practices.

CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCCESS

In order to increase our students’ sense of confidence and engagement in the classroom, our teachers and co-educators ensure that every child is set up for success in every lesson. We do this by personalising the learning for every student, ensuring they are appropriately challenged in order to experience a sense of success.

Students consistently receive positive reinforcement both informally throughout the lesson and through earning RAPs (Rowellyn Acknowledgement Points) through our Rowellyn Road acknowledgement system.

SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS TO CORRECT THEIR OWN BEHAVIOUR

Our teachers and co-educators use consistent, clear language to support our students in replacing behaviours of concern with more positive choices. By using the same language and non-verbal cues, our staff are able to give timely and effective prompts to our students to enable them to modify their behaviour.

If a student requires further support when continuing to display behaviours of concern in the classroom, they will be redirected by the teacher or co-educator who will restate the desired behaviour in a clear and concise manner.

In some instances, a teacher or co-educator will need to model or reteach the expected or required behaviour to a student. The student will then demonstrate the required behaviour, so that the teacher or co-educator can provide timely feedback to ensure the appropriate behaviour is reinforced to the student.
